SUGA JINJA SCHRINE

I decided to devote my last day in Shinjuku  in Yotsua quarter to all nearby local shrines and temples. In fakt Yotsua has unbelievable amount of them – even one cute little street where there are five of them in a row. My way towards Suga Jinja led me to a staircase. I had no idea that seeing this staircase is a dream of every anime fan as  2016 anime movie “Your Name” features it. Ever since the movie was released this staircase as well as this jinja became a place of pilgrimages of anime fans.

Here the main characters of the movie were standing

Suga Jinja – Main Hall
Yakubarai – ceremonial cleasing from evil influence in the Main Hall
Next to the Main Hall there is a small shrine with Daikoku inside  🙂
In a showcase on the shrine grounds there are reproductions of Thirty-six Poetry immortals, 18 of them can be seen in this photo.  The original  set of paintings was completed in 1836 and these are decorating the interior of the Main Hall. They are a Tangible Cultural Property of Shinjuku
