RAJ GHAT – MAHATMA GANDHI´S RESTING PLACE

In New Delhi I simply could not to visit the Raj Ghat memorial dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi – his resting place.   I did not expect that visiting his resting place would turn out to be such an uplifting experience, so pleasant and so wonderful.  I was absolutely overwhelmed by this Mahatma Gandhi memorial. There are four approach roads to it, one from each side. Never mind from which side you come, you reach a spot where you are required to remove your shoes and continue barefoot. You can walk around the burial ground, that is as a yard at ground level. Around it, on an upper level, there is a pavement on each side and the four pavements form a square from which you can take in both the inner part of the memorial and the outer part with approach roads and parks. And there is music playing – heavenly peaceful music, making your soul sing –  continuously. I did not find out what music that was but it is sounds in my mind…  And you can walk to the very centre where  there is the cremation place  where on 30th January 1948 Mahatma Gandhi was cremated just one day following his assassination.
