MAHATMA GANDHI MUSEUM IN DELHI

I must confess that Mahatma Gandhi ranks among the most inspirational and admirable personalities on my personal list of them. I knew a lot about him even before visiting the National Gandhi Museum in New Delhi. But seeing objects which are closely related to him and which are directly explaining the stories from his life,  soaked me in the times of his life and his thinking and his actions. And his actions, however peacefully they were carried out, moved thousands and thousands of people and brought about unthinkable changes.  A very modest man, genuinely sincere, genuinely kind… And he devoted himself and all his effort to his nation… Unselfishly…  That is something what is very hard to see.

In the glass showcase we can see the blood stained dhoti, one of the bullets which killed him and the pocket watch which he wore when he died. And behind it on the wall is Gandhis personal motto: “My life is my message”. Under his motto are the sacred urns in which his ashes were kept for immersion

Relics related to Gandhi´s martyrdom displayed in the room include:  blood stained cloths worn by him in his last moments on 30th January 1948, bullets which killed him, the pocket watch that was with him in the last moment of his life and sacred urns in which his ashes were kept for immersion
