YOKOHAMA MARINE TOWER

106 m tall YOKOHAMA MARINE TOWER is in fact a lighthouse – it is the tallest lighthouse in Japan and the tallest steel skeletal lighthouse in the world.  Among all lighthouses in general it ranks 4th tallest in the world.

It was constructed in 1961. At a hight of 100 m there is an observation deck.

Marine Tower as seen from Yamashita Park promenade
Observation decks are on both floors in the widest part of the tower
View from 100 m – Yamashita Park, Osanbashi Pier, Minatomirai and Landmark Tower
Hikawa Maru, the ship I have already written about in my previous post, can be seen
Looking towards China Town

The wooded hill behind the high-rise building is the Bluff which was since 1862 settled by foreigners
Customs building – yellow with green domed tower can be seen next to the port and behind them the skyline of Mirato Mirai, new high-rise buildings quarter with Landmark Tower skyscraper. From there we have already admired Yokohama from a 273 m perspective 🙂
As an apparition!  My eyes were looking for Tokyo Tower and they found Tokyo Sky Tree instead, that´s the 634 m tall tower in the middle, and it is the second tallest structure in the world and we will  go there together very soon to look around from there 🙂  It is appr. 33 km away from here
Inside
Now everybody can believe this is a road in Japan
Yokohama Bay Bridge
This I find extremely interesting! Appr. in the middle of the photo there is a special white and blue structure on the water, looking almost like a sailing boat. In fact it is Tokyo Bay Aqualine Wind Tower, or the Tower of Wind which supplies fresh air to the tunnel which is under the sea there and it is a part of Tokyo Bay Aqualine = Trans-Tokyo Bay Highway. It is a bridge-tunnel combination across Tokyo Bay and connects the city of Kawasaki in Kanagawa Prefecture with the city of Kisarazu in Chiba Prefecture. Total length 14 km – 4,4 km bridge and the tunnel is 9,6 km long = 4th longest underwater tunnel in the world. The construcion took 9 years and was completed in 1997
How exciting – standing on a glass floor of the 29th floor of the Marine Tower = 91 m high above ground level and looking down
I left the Marine Tower reluctantly and it is getting dark and I look behind me to enjoy seeing it again
